Value to Family and Friends:

When you visit a patient, you may find him or her asleep.  Do you wake them up so you can tell them you have come to visit?  No.  You write a loving note in the Patient's Resource Book, write your prayer and leave it on the bed table.  When they awake there will be a surprise better than flowers (which are not allowed sometimes any way.)  You get credit for being the a visitor because the list in the book doesn't lie.
In the early stages of recovery, the patient may be so drugged up that they won't remember your visit - even though they spoke to you at the time.

This book provides a permanent way for you to express your love and friendship.

If you have brought children with you, the book explains how to make the experience a positive one for them.  We do not want to tramatize children because we did not realize they were seeing or hearing things that were frightening to them.  There are things to do with the children to keep them involved with the entire hospital visit experience.
